Yeng waiting for 'the right one'

Yeng Constantino said she is “single and waiting and anticipating for the right one to come.” But this doesn’t mean she’s eager to enter a relationship.

“Ayoko yung titingnan ko siya, kunwari crush ko ito, ‘Ay sige, pwede ko na maging boyfriend yan.’ Gusto ko yung lalaking magiging boyfriend ko, yung makikita kong makakasama ko for the rest of my life,” the pop rock princess said in an interview during the launch of the new fashion magazine Flique at Opus in Resorts World, Pasay City.

Yeng also said, “Kung sino ang gusto ng Panginoon for me, I know na magiging masaya ako. I just have to wait and be patient. Kasi kung di ako mag-iintay, parang masasayang yung emotion ko para sa taong di naman para sa akin.”

For the 23-year-old Kapamilya artist, who has been linked to a few celebrities in the past, experience is not necessarily the best teacher. Hence, she doesn’t see the point of entering relationships for experience’s sake.

“Experience of other people is the best teacher,” she said. “Kaya hindi ko na kailangang maranasan pa. Masaya naman ako na pine-preserve ko ang aking sarili para sa aking mapapang-asawa,”

“I just want to act on my conviction to really wait,” Yeng added. “Maganda yun na pag nakita mo yung the one, sasabihin niya na, ‘Alam mo, inintay kita ng matagal. Ikaw lang talaga naging boyfriend ko’.”

Ideal guy

Yeng shared no one has expressed romantic intentions for her recently. But if anyone intends to in the future, the singer hopes he’s a friend first before an admirer or suitor.

“I really hope na friend ko muna (yung lalaki). Walang best foot forward. Gusto ko yung real. Yung makakasama mo, (malalaman mo kung ) paano magalit, paano matuwa, ano mga gusto niya. Yung talagang nakakausap mo ng normal,” she said.

So how would she describe her ideal man?

“Mahal yung Diyos. And mahal yung pamilya niyang sarili. Saka may pangarap, may plano,” Yeng said.

She added it wouldn’t matter if the guy is from showbiz or not. “Marami namang totoong tao sa show business, e. Hindi ako naniniwala na mahirap makakita ng totoong tao dito.”

Yeng explained, “Siguro meron lang first na wall (silang) nilalagay, syempre proprotektahan mo ang sarili mo. Pero as you get to know yung mga tao sa show business, makikita mo na tao sila talaga. Hindi sila parang mannequin o laruan.”

Of course, Yeng has celebrity crushes, Enchong Dee, Mario Maurer, and Zac Efron among them. “Pero hanggang crush na lang, hanggang sulyap na lang ako,” she said.

What if Enchong decides to court her? “Naku, di mangyayari yun. Baka himatayin ako,” she quipped

‘Nagdadalaga’

Love life (or lack thereof) aside, Yeng feels she’s currently blossoming as a person and as an artist. A proof of this, she said, is being the cover girl of fashion magazine Flique’s maiden issue.

During the start of her career, Yeng admits to being fashion illiterate. So being a fashion magazine cover is an achievement for her.

“Feeling ko  talaga nagdadalaga ako ngayon. Feeling ko, parang ‘Wow, di kaya blooming ako today?’ Ganun yung feeling. Saka part talaga siya ng evolution ko as an artist, as a musician, and a person,” she said.

Yeng is the first to admit her style years ago was “jologs.” How would she describe her fashion preference now?

“Gusto ko yung feel na malinis na glam rock na glamorous,” she said, citing the Olsen twins, Emma Watson, and Kristen Stewart as her fashion inspiration.
